Default 1/1 Scale 9 Pounder Deck Gun

Hello to all --

I am interested in naval cannons , so I decided to build a generic life size (non-firing prototype) model . A 1/1 scale cicra 1750's ship's cannon using Don's (Navarone)table of measurements . The pics below are of the prototype - I will be making changes to the next one working toward a more historically accurate carriage and barrel . We are planning to sell them with production to begin this fall . We think they make nice lawn /garden decorations ! --

Comments are always welcome ?........

Nice idea, already a very nice looking gun.
What is it made out of, and how much will they sell for?

Super job Gary!
What changes are you planning? Are the changes based on problems you encountered in the construction of the carriage. I would be interested in what these are. I would add the reinforce rings to the cannon.

Hi JD --

MATERIALS - METAL/WOOD/PLASTIC

Hi Don --
yes , I agree , the reinforcing rings will be added . We needed a set of photos for our marketing research company so we omitted the rings on the prototype . If you look close on the barrel you should see the markings for them . Problems encountered in the carriage were based on the lack of measurements required - we had to make up some of the data which conflicted with the barrel measurements /data- you have to build the carriage to suit the barrel and not the reverse .Also , we had to make a full size jig to aid in the carriage assembly

Gary:

"Nice lawn/garden decorations", Yes, if you're a pirate! I can just see you now: "You kids get off my grass, or I'll fire one across your bows!!!

Don't forget your quoin, so you can depress the barrel (them kids are short).

You need to color your carriage yellow ochre; Red was the color on Constitution, yellow ochre was Royal Navy (aren't you a subject of the queen?). I wouldn't want any Canadians thinking the US was "invading again"!!

Nice job.

Im loving these. They look awesome the way they are already, and they promise to be getting a lot better even.
Too bad that ill never be able to afford one being shipped to Australia. lol.
I wish you all the luck with launching these.
Sounds like it has become quite an enterprise.
Keep us informed.
