Yes. As I mentioned earlier the Mayflower II had many color schemes since 1956. This is the original color scheme. Its the one that Baker envisioned after his research. I think the color of the replica now has more to do with economy than it does historical accuracy. The "over-the-top" geometric patterns you sometimes see wouldnt have been used on the Mayflower as it was a simple, small merchant vessel. What you see on the model is a toned down version of Baker's design. Just like the photo that was posted a few threads back in this thread. Click the link to see the photo from 1956.

Chuck --

Painting a kit is always an option - will MS provide a paint plan with the kit ? Also , did you make up a sail plan ?

No sail plan but there is a color scheme shown on the plans. I suspect a lot of differents colors will be used based on each individual preference.

The port lids are finished. I used the same techniques as used for Syren. The conversion to POB is actually finished now. I just have to finalize the instructions and organize the info. The Beakhead is actually the same as made on the solid hull version. The pieces all fit and there is no need to take this any farther at this time. After I organize everything and send it off to Model Shipways I will start on the Syren Masting. I hope this was a pleasant conversion to watch. It was a pleasant DIVERSION for me. It didnt take very long but I think it looks better than the first solid hull version. I guess everything gets better the second time around. I also found a nice postcard from the 50's which will show you what I was shooting for.

Thanks for looking.
It was a fun project which I will finish in the future.

Chuck

Excellent thread. I recently ordered this kit and it should arrive pretty soon. I'm sure I'll be looking at this thread for pointers. Thanks for taking the time to write up the build.

Thank you so much.

I appreciate. As you start to build the model please do keep in touch. Let me know anything I can do to help. Its a real nice subject to model.

Your kit showed up today. They haven't made a new box for it yet, it came in the solid hull packaging. At first I was worried, but upon opening it I found the POB kit. I'm going to start working on it now.

Thats good to hear. Keep me posted. They havent replaced the PDF on their site yet either. I have reminded them a few times. So if you need a clearer version of the instructions let me know. I can email you the file directly. The pics are much clearer. I also have posted some in color here but have many others saved if you need particular shots.

Have fun with it. Remember when you start that I designed the kit so the bulkheads fit tightly. I hate loose bulkheads. If they are too snug just a few passes with some sandpaper will do the trick. Let me know how everthing comes together and feel free to post your progress here.
