Default Prince de Neufchatel finally finished

I've posted some photos of the Model Expo kit of the Prince de Neufchatel that I finally finished. This was a terrible kit, with lots of problems and poor documentation. So I finally gave up and just made it a generic War of 1812 Privateer. I understand this kit was pulled from the Model Expo line. I have had great success with Model Expo except for this one kit, which I understand they did not develop but bought from another company.

Hi Tommy,

Sorry to hear about your troubles with "the Prince". You're probably pleased it's behind you. I'm interested to know how you achieved the colour of your planking which looks very good. From the photos, it looks antique.

Regards,

Rudeau (Chris)

Hi Chris:

The hull planking was walnut strips that were in the kit. I just used some clear Minwax Stain and Sealer over it. You wipe it on and then wipe it back off and let it dry for maybe a 1/2 day. Then you can put on another coat and do the same thing. A little 4 ought steel wool will slick it up just fine after it is dry.

The deck planking was poplar strips with the edges darkened with a pencil. After it was all applied I used two coats of Minwax Golden Oak stain and sealer, applied just like the hull. You wipe it on and then wipe it back off and then let it dry.

Most of my color paint was Polly-Scale water-based model railroad paints. They come in a ton of colors, the pigment is very fine, coverage is good and clean up is just soap and water.
