So I'm about ready to start rigging my Corel 1860 Flying fish. What is the preferred method of attaching blocks to gaffs, booms, masts, and other places on the ship....rigging thread or black 28 gauge annealed steel wire?

Guess that depends if you want to be historically correct or not and the period of the ship your building.
Certainly some ships used wire to attach blocks, but I believe generally they were attached with line (rope). Especially in the time period of the Flying Fish. Also most of the line would not have been tarred so not black. Good luck Tom |

Thanks, but the standing rigging was black right?

Right standing rigging is black, running rigging is untarred.
There are some who believe the rigging of the dead eyes on the shrouds should also be untarred. Generally most models show black rigging at the dead eyes. You may find it helpful to look at the models shown in the gallery here and at MSW in the "Complete Models" forum. Tom |
