I was in the Washington Navy Yard Museum and saw an awesome model of the Missouri. On the bow there is a fairly small chain that runs from the top of the bow directly down to the forefoot way below the waterline. It is not, as best I could figure, any part of the anchor system. Can someone explain what it's purpose was?

EUREKA ... I found out! That chain is related to the ship's mine defense system that employs paravanes off the bow to cut the mooring cables of underwater mines.
