Hi Everyone,
I am assembling a brass carronade and require an adhesive, it should also join brass to wood. Can someone please recommend a suitable glue. Dereck ![]() |

If you clean the brass to make sure there is no finish then CA works well. I use CA to glue parts together when I am making several sets. The added thickness allows easier machining.

Hi Ed,
Thanks for your reply, I will give it a try. Dereck ![]() |

I have also used CA successfully. Epoxy is too messy and can leave hideous blobs.

CA comes in two types, the common very liquid "instant" bonding type and also in a thicker type that better spans any joint openings and which "sets" with the application of a separate spray-on "accelerator" to activate it. Great stuff to use when positioning parts and then, where you have them where you want them, setting the CA almost instantly!

Bill-
I have used the accelerator with some of the slower bonding ca's. Is there a ca that doesn't set at all without the accelerator? If so - source please. Thanx, Ed |

There is also a third variety of CA glue - Thin... it's great for wicking into seams and really locks parts together. Also, it sets very quickly.
Be warned however that it runs like water so use it very carefully and very s l o w l y.

If at first you don't succeed...look in the trash for the instructions!

ED,
My belief is that the watery type sets SO fast you can't get the accelerator to it quick enough ... and the various slower and thicker CAs to best of my knowledge DO require the accelerator "kicker". My useage has been heavily on the non-watery type as I feel I have much better control of it. BILL |
