Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

Default Progress on My New Project

I finally figured out how to post more pictures to this site so I have posted some photos of my latest project HMCS Crusader. This is a multi media project in 1/72 scale using plastics, wood, brass, aluminum and resin casting. I am working from a hull of the HMS Cavalier from Fleetscale which was the same class of ship. I am using the props and shafts provided with the kit although there is no motors and this will be a static model. I am scratch building all of the deck hardware and fixtures including the all of the guns, depth charges and racks and torpedos and torpedo tubes. I chose plastic for the superstructure because it will be easiest to simulate welded seams on.

I know this is not quite a traditional wooden ship project but I wanted to take a break and really get into a large ship. It is also a way to experiment with various method of fabrication using my small mill and lathe. Currently I am machining the main guns mechanism and barrels. I have the resin castings for the turrets but I am going to build new ones from brass to achieve a better scale.

Waiting in the wings is a similar project for the modern Canadian Patrol Frigate, HMCS Ottawa.

Thanks Marc!

Your Victory is looking quite impressive as well. I was looking at your album and the mast work is really nice. I just finished Caldercraft's HMS Agamemnon this past summer but I have still got the ship's boats in progress on the bench.

I just decided to take a break from wooden kits for a few months, I got a new Sherline mill for my birthday and wanted to try it out so the new project was best way to get going for now.

Good luck with your build! Happy New Year

Mike
