Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

Default Model ship conference 4 25 2009

Just a quick reminder. The Northeast Ship model conference will hold its annual show and competition on April 25th 2009. It is held in New London CT at the Port N Starboard banquet facility. The joint clubs conference is a show for the members of nine (maybe 10) east coast ship model clubs. Last year we had about 160 or so participants and plenty of walkins as it is open to the public for viewing. There were well over 75 models displayed. There will also be 4 or 5 table top workshops that talk about different ship model techniques and a guest speaker. Last year I presented one of the workshop discussions which was about working with Sculpey. I am not sure what the workshop discussions will be this year.

This years conference is sponsered by the USS Constitution Model shipwrights Guild. They have a large and quite active membership. If anyone has any question please let me know.

I plan on bringing and displaying the finished model of Syren. Hopefully it will be done in time.

See the Constitution clubs site for details and forms should you want to attend. I think you must be a member of one of teh nine clubs to display a model but anyone can attend. There is a light hearted ship model competion as well for all folks that do bring a model. Please come out to see the models that will be shown this year and enjoy the round table tech sessions.

Click this link for the Constitution guild website. If you go to the about us page and scroll down you will see the link for the Conference info.

Oh, I will be conducting one of those roundtable discussions this year. I will be talking about "Intermediate techniques for adding details to your spars...Stunsail boom irons, stirrups, footropes, blocks ect. I will try and create a stuns'l boom iron out of some brass tubing and a few other materials (without the use of a soldering iron.) That should be fun. Its the way I created for the Syren.

Hi Chuck

wasn't able to get to the show in New London so now I have a question or two. Is there any such thing as a schedule or calendar of model ship shows or do you have to belong to one of the clubs you mentioned? Also, if there isn't a calendar can you usually learn about them ahead of time in the Forum? Lastly,I see you are from New Jersey and being from Massachusetts, are many held in the North East area or can you find them nationwide? Thanks!
brian

Not really. Its all just through word of mouth, these forums or by reading the modeling magazines. There a few regular shows. Graet lakes club has a show and competition. The Northeast show is yearly. The NRG has regular workshops and conferences. Theres one coming up in October in Buffalo. They may be having competitions again also.

The Constitution guild club also has a show every year.
