Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

Default Laser cut parts

What is the prevailing opinion on sanding off the burned edges on laser cut parts?

Alan --

Up to you of course , however, I would sand off all burnt edges on plywood deck fittings for a better look -- if the edge is to be painted than I would seal the fitting and paint it .

cheers

I think I read that glue will set better if you sand the burnt edge.

I would always sand off the burnt edges. The only time I wouldnt do it is if by doing so, the pieces will not fit together properly any longer. For example...if the bulkhead slots fit OK before sanding them I wouldnt sand off the burnt parts because they might be too loose afterwards. Its a trade-off. The glue will hold better on joints that dont have burnt edges. Paint and stain will always look better if the burnt parts are removed.
