Hi, Everybody, New member here
I'm a little out of place here, seeing how I carve half models instead of create full models, however, I know we all share the same interests of the sea, ships and so forth.
My father began carving half models back during the great depression, selling them to survive. They were rather small, perhaps 1/32nd in scale, as the wood he made them from, he probably found. (trash) I still have some of them, he carved the sails as well. I grew up on the water, I think I had my first rowboat when I was 10, had some bigger boats when I grew older, all of wood ( needless to say I'm good with maintenance) HA HA. My brother has been a schooner captain (out of Glouster, ma.) Ya, I know, I never spell it right) worked on restoreing the schooner the Adventurer, helped build "the Fame" a pinky schooner and teaches kids with disabilities, the art of the old shipwrights. Anyway, I'm fond of carving the hulls, love the way they look when finished. I have'nt carved many, but know fairing of the lines, sea stuff in general, is in my blood. Now that I'm a little older 51,and have the time, I plan on creating quite a few, will give or donate most of them, keep a few. Perhaps in time, design a new hull. Dan |
