Does anyone have any suggestions (or photos) on how to mount the ship's flags on HMS Victory? There are four flags, which I have, but I have no clue as to the proper mounting procedures. Also, how do you stiffen them up a bit so as to simulate a slight breeze? All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I can't help you with placement other than under sail the flags point toward the direction the wind would be blowing and not aft. Don't laugh, a lot of people asked me why the flags were pointing forward (landlubbers)
As for stiffening some members have mentioned starch but I've found that white glue diluted with water works well. I use "Titebond" white glue and I've just found a new version, "Titebond molding & trim wood glue", that is supposed to dry clear. I haven't tried it yet but it looks like it may work. Whatever you decide my primary tip is to try it on a sample cloth before you use the flags you got with the kit. Also for your sails if your putting them on, make a frame that will hold them in roughly the position they would be on the model. Then spray them with the water/glue mix and put a fan behind them until dry. They should stay billowed until you move them. If not they'll still be easier to shape. Pete

Swanny:
I have a painting of Victory as my desktop: it shows the UK ensign (white background with red cross and small union jack in upper corner) on the flagstaff at the stern; Then, the English flag (white background with red cross) at the main top royal; And the union jack (blue back ground with red crosses, outlined in white) at the jack staff at the bow. What color is your fourth flag? Remember to make an admiral's pendant for it (Nelson's would have been blue).

When a ship is at anchor ,it would weathercock into the wind ,so the flags would be flapping opposite to when at sea under sail.Cheers! John.

That's true but then the sails would have to be furled. I was picturing a ship under sail.
You know, three sheets to the wind and all. Pete
