Default Cutty Sark mini MAMOLI

Well this will be my first Ship to build. Small in size but with just enough detail to learn something about ship building. will be an intresting adventure in modeling and a nice change of pase from my other hobbies. kit purchased

Cutty Sark (mini) MM8
Length 11-3/4" Height 9-1/2" Scale 1:250 Entry Level
Pre-Carved Wooden Hull Construction
The Cutty Sark was, in 1869, one of the last sailing clippers to be built, and she is the only classic clipper still surviving. She is now preserved in dry dock at Greenwich London, England. The Cutty Sark was destined for the China tea trade, at that time an intensely competitive race across the globe from China to London, with immense profits to the ship to arrive with the first tea of the year. However, she did not distinguish herself in this trade, but in the famous race, against Thermopylae. Cutty Sark was 400 miles in the lead when a storm blew up round the Cape of Good Hope. Disastrously, she lost her rudder. Moodie had the carpenter make a temporary rudder. Sailing in terrible winds and seas, the crew, including Willis's brother, urged him to head for dock in South Africa, but Moodie refused and reached London only seven days behind Thermopylae. Although they lost the race, both captain and crew were celebrated as heroes for their gallant effort.

Mini-Kits by Mamoli offer well detailed, high quality kits that are fun and easy to build. Solid wood hulls are pre-carved and perfectly shaped. Fine grained wooden dowels are provided for the masts and spars, and individual planking strips cover the deck. Authentically scaled fittings include metal parts, cotton rigging and silk-screened flags. One-to-one plans and simple instructions assure a model you'll be proud to display. Average assembly time is 15-20 hours.
I'm pretty sure it's gonna take me a little longer since i want my first ship to be as nice as the picture. i'm pretty certain that if there isnt enough detail i will add some more next ship if this one is successfull will be an intermediate ship.

Hi Patrick,

The best advice I can give you is to take your time and don't hesitate to ask questions. Be sure and post some photos of your progress.

Patrick;

You picked a good ship to begin with. She has nice lines and is still with us today. I am working on the AL 1/89 scale version. When I can get a hold of the company camera again I will posting my build photos. I would like to see yours too as I have not seen the Mamoli Kits yet. I am think about her competitor Thermopylae as my next project. Good luck on your build and like the others say don't hesitate to question. I have seen a lot of good advice here and I know i will be using it soon and asking my own questions.

Cheers;

Mike

OK just thought i would say something about this shipper. i purchased this ship from www.historicships.com i'm just wondering if everyone gets such slow service. i purchased the ship August 28, 2008 and it suppose to have arrived today. but after checking the ups tracking it wont be here till tommorrow sure hope i get everything needed to build it.

21 days to get the ship. is this the first test of patience in building the ship is that you have to wait almost a month to get it.?
So i wont be dealing with this company again on any future purchases. will be looking through the links and using some other company.

Patrick:
It might be that it wasn't "in stock" at the time and they had to wait for it too; Also depends on how busy UPS is. When did UPS get it? That would show you who delayed the shipment.

US 09/10/2008 4:40 P.M. BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED this is when the billing info was recived and this is the last part of the tracking info.
SYLMAR,
CA, US 09/17/2008 10:10 P.M. ARRIVAL SCAN

Rescheduled Delivery: 09/18/2008

so i relize its not the UPS shipping company that created the delay. but the web site should state wheather or not a product is in stock. i sent several emails and hadnt gotten a reply only when i sent an email to cancel the order was there a reply sent in the form of a tracking number and the ship sent out.
It would be common curtisy to email a customer and inform them that the product is out of stock. I have been in the airplane modeling business for quite awhile and have never encountered this in the aircraft modeling businesses i have dealt with. but no matter i will get my ship tommarrow and all will be well with the beginings of my ship construction hopefully.

But any future orders i place with this company since they do have alot of great ship kits for sale will be done over the phone or an email sent to make sure the product is in stock and shipped out in a timely manner.

Pat:
A lesson learned. Seems you have the right idea, "future orders...done over the phone". Look forward to your build.

Smile Re: Cutty Sark mini MAMOLI

well i finally got the kit pretty small alot of reading to do should be intresting alot of terms to learn such as bow stem and the stern post i would thing the bow is the front and the stern is the rear. i'm glad there are numbers for refrence definetly a noob to ship building lol.
hard to believe all the stuff in the box makes a ship like the one pictured. lol gonna have to clear an area for my building got some cleaning to do. but this should keep me content on them rainy days this winter for awhile doesnt look to terriably difficult not like my cousins ship with deck planking and all that. my hull is pretty much done just a peice of wood that needs to be sanded and stuff added to it. glad i started with something simple. so now i'm going to say im in reading blueprint phase and figuring out what is what so i guess the first step is hull construction..
