Does CA go bad?
Since I am still working on my first wooden ship build, It took me forever to become comfy with using CA. Only did it thanks to many tips from the forum. Well, now that I am comfy I have a new problem. Does CA go bad? I started with a 2 ounce bottle from Tower Hobbies. I have been using it for almost 5 months. I stopper it loosly with a pin between uses. I have used perhaps a total of 1 quarter ounce so far. Tonight suddenly it would no longer glue the butt end of sapelli parts to the flat side of a joining part. Tried several times on several parts. Zip for results. Could the bottle have gone bad?

Can't give you an answer to your problem but in answer to your question Yes CA can go bad. You should keep it refrigerated when not in use. Generaly the signs af a bad bottle is the glue gets somewhat thicker and will keep getting thicker as it ages.

Ca glue "goes bad" as you say, and it probably did. Two things that will effect it are heat and humidity; You have both, in abundance, in Orlando. It should be capped "air tight" when not in use and when kept for long periods it should be kept refrigerated (not frozen). You don't know how long it sat at Tower Hobbies" before you got it, so don't think it only lasts for a few months. I just recently had to throw out a bottle, after a year for the same reason. But, Oregon is cooler, and less humid, than Florida. I would suggest you get the tip extenders. When not in use they will seal off and prevent air getting to the glue (sort of "cap" it's self). When next used, just snip the end off.

I had a similar problem with a couple of bottles of CA glue . I checked with my supplier and they told me it was probably due to humidity and improper storage . They replaced the glue at no charge and advised me to store my bottles in a cool dark place when not in use and to seal the top with the origional colored tip . HOLD FAST !

Alan: Acetone will unclog/dissolve CA. In Orlando, it's probably best to do as Gary suggest; " Store with the original tip." If you use acetone to clean the tips after use, make sure they are clear (the CA gets "gummy") .
Give the bottle a few "sharp raps" on the table top to knock the CA back into the bottle.

I have also heard that squeezing the bottle in an upright position will help clear the tip.

"easy on the squeezy" - you are pushing the air sitting in the bottle on top of the glue - too much "squeezy" and glue everywhere - lol HOLD FAST !

That's why you "give the bottle a sharp knock on the table. It helps gravity to get the glue back in the bottle. Then do your "squeeze thing". Or you can paper all your walls with wax paper, then it won't be a problem.
