Default Model Shipways Mayflower progress

Workshop time was limited for a couple of weeks but I am now back into a groove. The decks are planked and the gratings completed. I have started work on the bulkhead details at each break in the deck levels. Then I will put the bulwark sides in position for final planking. I am happy with the results so far. ME supplies a pinstripe tape in a wide range of colors and widths. I used white tape that was .010 wide. Thats pretty thin stuff. Its self adhesive. I placed a clear sheet of acetate over the plans and then used the thin tape to simulate the diamond pattern. I think its an improvement and looks more like leaded glass than before. I realize its hard to tell in the pictures though. Then I used slighter wider tape to fram the entire window before I secured to the back of the window opening.

Any comments would be welcomed as usual.

Chuck

Chuck --

coming alone nicely -- I much prefer the pob to the solid hull . The tape is an excellent idea . I have been looking for something like this for making windows for some time - easier than trying to make them out of hand milled 1x1 stock . Great tip , thank you
Any idea when the new kit will be available ?

Awsome Chuck. I saw the ME had issued a POB Mayflower available in August 2008. Did you take any photos of your planking progress?

Heres a few more pictures. I finished the bulkhead details and I finished the stern. The port lids will be detailed after the final planking is finished. I have to install the bulwark stanchions next then it will be time for the final planking and painting. Its getting there.

The windows were made using some pinstripe tape on acetate film. The thinner lines that simulate the diamond pattern are just .010 wide. On this version of the Mayflower I was able to make some other improvements I wish I ciould have included on the solid hull. I made the windows longer and the hull narrower at the stern. This is especially noticeable on the poop deck. I also showed a picture of the original solid hull build with the same angle and i think it is coming out a lot better this go around. It is fun for mr to compare pictures from the old project. If you compare those two pictures in particular you can see how the stern is a lot higher than the solid hull version. I think the overall shape ofthe hull is more pleasing now.

Comments or questions are always appreciated.

Chuck

I am using boxwood. The treenails are just Elmer's wood filler that I smear into pre-drilled holes. The stain is Minwax Golden Oak.

Thanks for the kudos. She is coming together.
