Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

Default Least Favorite Part of Ship Modeling

I think there is a poll on this subject somewhere in the forum, but I could not find it.
I need someone to vent my "dislike and tired of working on it" exasperation and you all are the only ones who will listen. I've come to the conclusion that my "most" least faviorite part is the CAP RAILS.
Thanks for listening, I feel a little better now. (Well, back at it)

Thanks for the info Gary,
I'll remember where it is. But just checking a box (for now) would not make me feel better. I just needed to get it off of my chest.
Also, while I'm at it, I wish that when members post photos of "their" ship which I'm also building (or may build) that they would check with me first so I can advise which parts of the ship I will need to see for reference in building mine. I'm having my own pity party today. Wife could care less. I get no respect.

Dennis,
Now that you've got that off your chest I must agree, Well almost agree. I used to start a model and when I got to the cap rail I'd fiddle fart around with all kinds of other task to avoid that one. Sometimes I'd even start another model. Some where along the line I read Mastinis's book and how he described applying the hull planking lit the light. Then I thought that should work for the cap rail.
Now what I do is bend the cap rail to the rough shape. Put a drop of CA on maybe a quarter of the bulkhead tips and app;y white glue in between. Then I apply the caprail to this. Hold it in position for a few seconds to a minute.and voila its stuck. Then I repeat the process for the next section and keep doing this until the cap rail is on.
Now sadly to say installing the caprail is not on the list of least favorite task and ratlines is back to No. 1
Fred

Thanks for the tip Fred, I'll try that next time. I finally got the cap rail on (expect it to pop off any time now) and now trying to figure out the monkey rail. Ratlines? Gee thanks for reminding me.

Dennis.
I'm crushed. I thought that you were going to ask, "How do you bend the rai?l" I know, you're little rubber duck told you.

Sorry about that Fred,
I'm always interested on tips from experienced modelers, so lay it on me. I used a jig and wet wood.
