Default Newsboy Model Shipways

Is anyone building MS Newsboy? I'm just getting started on mine again after the winter and am wondering if there are any others out there; seems like I hardly ever see her name mentioned in any threads.

Hi Roger --
I just down loaded the pdf. file from the Model Shipways web site . Looks like a good build /fun kit . Did you get Langford's book with the kit ? His books are excellent reference material . You should post a build log so we can follow your progress .

Roger,
You're not alone. I just finished the 3/16" version and I must say it makes a beautiful ship. Do you have the 1/8" or 3/16" I have a few pictures taken during construction on this site and I'll add some of the finished kit. If you have any questions or problems give me a holler
Fred

Gary: Didn't get any book other than the instructions but they seem clear enough in most places, though reading ahead is (as always) strongly suggested.
I've just finished off the cap rail and although not top notch, it's fine for collecting dust on my shelf over the next couple decades
I'll try to get the nack of Photo-Bucket again and post a pic every now and then.

Fred: I have the 1/8 scale version. This is my second model so I wanted to keep it simple yet a bit larger than the Phantom.

This ship just caught my eye in the catalog. I'm not sure whether it's the 'cool green hull' or the clipper-like bows but it just tickled my fancy for some reason. I'm a bit surprised it's not a more popular kit given it's lines and size.

And now, for your entertainment, a dancing banana -

Gary,
There are a couple of photos of my Newsboy. If you click on the locomotive picture you'll get to them. One in progress but almost finished, one finished and in the case, and a couple of detail pics. The manual that I was refering to is the one by Ben Lankford and it sounds as if that's the one that comes with the kit. Again, any questions drop me a line.

Just checked out your pictures, Fred. Very nice ship. I'm ashamed to show mine now.
I finished drilling the hawse holes, and such today. I drilled the scuppers from the outside but didn't go all the way inboard for fear of tearing up the waterways or something.

I uploaded some pics to photo bucket but I'll be spanked if I can recall how to get them to show up here. Oh well, just imagine a big green thing with blue bulwarks.

You folks may not have seen these pics of Erik Ronnbberg's Nesboy. I hope they will help you somewhat. Not the copor plating. I domnt like the different colors their but the detailing on the model is superb.

Thanks for the link, Chuck. I like the rail he added around the stern. Sweet.
