Default Bluenose

a long long time ago when I were a lad, my father built me the plastic kit of the Bluenose made by Aurora. I have always been aeroplane mad, but I did love the lines of that boat and I have never forgotten it. Hundreds of plastic kits and balsa RC planes later, I fancied making a ship, either a U-boat or a Bluenose (hows that for disparate tastes!) in plastic. Searching for vintage Aurora Bluenose kits on the web I came across some beautiful wooden renditions of this classic ship? boat? (I dont want to offend afficiandos by using the wrong terminology).

So impressed by these models I have decided to build a wooden Bluenose! Occre, leclerc, artesania latina, mantua, mamoli, model shipways and Billings plus a few more produce wooden ship kits. The word on the docks is that the model shipways kit is the way to go, can anyone confirm this scuttlebutt or offer any other advice? In the meantime I am searching ebay waiting to pounce on an unwanted kit.. some bargains out there sometimes it seems

all the best

Wally,
First, I;ll put a second on the Model Shipways kit. I have the Art. Latina and it seems lacking in authenticity, seems almost toyish. You can go to the Model Shipways site and download the instruction manual that comes with their kit. I have several of their kits and all are first rate.
Second, I'd appreciate it if you would go back to the personal info page an tell us something about yourself (Or I'll sic my brother, who lives in Australia, on you. Yuk, Yuk.) I like to know something about the person I'm talking to.
Fred

Wally,

I'll also endorse the Model Shipways Bluenose. It is very detailed yet not too difficult for a beginner. I recently completed planking and painting the hull. Next step is planking the deck. So far I am very happy with how it is turning out.

Australia is a wonderful country. I just got back the other day after 10 days in Adelaide and Sydney on business (with a bit of pleasure thrown in.) That was my third time to Australia, but I have never been out west to Perth. Maybe someday...
