In a book I am currently reading I have come across a black and white photo taken on board the four-mast bark 'Lynton' which displays some interesting iconography on a board above it's cabin. On the left are the American and British flags with a banner above which says 'Lynton'. On the right is the British flag and what appears to be a house flag of a solid dark color with the letter 'M' in white on it. Above this is a banner which says 'London'. In the center is the British coat of arms surrounded by what may be oak leaf clusters. Below is a banner which reads 'Dulcis felix que domus' and above is a banner which reads 'Gods light our guide'. I thought the American flag in the midst of all this was especially interesting.
Through some research I have found that the ship belonged to W. Montgomery & Co., London at the time the photo was taken (1905). Their house flag was a white 'M' on a solid blue background, which closely matches what is shown in the B/W photo. I am wondering if the Latin and English phrases mentioned above might have been the companies mottoes but I haven't been able to find out anything else about Montgomery & Co. Coincidentally, there is also a copy of this print currently listed on eBay. If anyone is interested in seeing it look under 'bark Lynton' on eBay. I would appreciate any thoughts about this or any links you might suggest I go to. Thanks, all. Richard

Richard,
The latin phrase means something to the effect of "happy and lucky home" or lucky is a happy home or happiness is a lucky home.. or something to that effect, I'm not sure how latin grammar is structured.
