The framing is coming along and I thought to share a couple of photos. I have just started to frame the gunports and sweeps. The shape of the hull is starting to reveal itself. I Cant wait to get the skeleton completed so I can put some skin on these bones. 70 people have signed up to take part in the group project and about 5 or 6 have started a build log so far. You can see their progress on www.modelshipworld.com . There is still time to get started if you are looking for a new project.

About 3 weeks but only a few hours at a time. I am also working on the additional plan sheets and writing the practicum. If i wasnt doing that it would have taken less time. The crazy thing is I built it in my head about a hundred times before I even started making sawdust. The plans have taken me about 6 months to prepare and research so far. I only have the masting and rigging left to do.

believe it or not I used a scrap piece of 1 x 2 Maple I had in the garage. It was a beautiful piece of wood and was a little soory to use it but didnt want to run out to the store. It is very hard (probably too hard) for the the porpose of filler. It took a long time to cyt and sand so each block would fit properly.

The skeleton of the Syren is completed and I have started the planking. The planking is basswood. Its good to get past the initial framing because I can finally see the shape of the hull.
For those interested in the details of the project please visit www.modelshipworld.com It is difficult to repost the same updates on multiple forums and I have been very busy with the group build on MSW. There are 18 people building this model along with me and we are still open to new members. I will continue to post updates here if you folks would like to see them. If anyone wishes to join the project please visit the site and sign up. I will try and answer any questions you might have. The project has been a lot of fun for me so far. Chuck |

well.... So far so good. Here are two pictures of the hull fully planked and treenailed. I am going to start work on the stern details next and then begin planking the decks and interior. The hull will be copper plated and I created a jig to stamp all of the plates. The plating wont be done until all major sanding and planking is finished. I will post more progress photos at that time. I have already made 200 copper plates. Chuck |

Looks great Chuck! I like your jig. Do you have drawing or sketchs of your jig, how did you make it?
