Default Endeavour

Hello to anyone else out there working on the Endeavour. I started out with the AL kit (1:60 scale plank on frame) back in 1984. Soon after I had the hull planked I got a copy of Marquardt's Anatomy of the Ship book. From that point on I've been scratch building. The AL kit had some fittings, but mostly it was a box of sticks.
Not that Marquardt is the last word on the subject. I've found several errors in his plans, but overall, it seems like a very well researched study of the ship.
There was a long break in the construction while I returned to school and raised a kid. But, now I'm getting close to rigging. What about the rest of you Endeavours? The shared projects forum needs more Endeavour photos.

John

Please keep us up to date on your efforts. I have a 1/100 scale Mamoli Endeavor, and almost done with the double planking. The fittings are very nice, but the woods in the kit seem to be poorly cut and short on supply. I had to scrap the keel as it was too flimsy, but I am determined to make a decent model and anxious to see what other folks are doing!

Hi John, I have been working on my Endeavour for the last few years, mine is by Corel 1;60 scale. I did the same thing bought the book AOS. From the book they have scaled drawings, and all the items I had made from the kit where out of scale so they went in the gabbage. It amazes me how each kit is so different. I have put some of my pictures in the photo gallery.

Hello... I built the Artesania Latina Endeavour kit. I think it's my best piece. I can't seem to remember the scale, but it's a good size ship. I have seen pictures in many books and it seems that they all look pretty much like the model I built. I'm not sure how to post pictures but I would be more then happy to share them

I understand that the Cook's Endeavor is very close to Cook's Resolution. The Resolution is what I am building for now. I work on board the research vessel called the JOIDES Resolution. You can see it at http://iodp.tamu.edu/

Best Regards,

Hi John

I've just started on my first build, HMS Endeavour, and am still at the planking, sanding stage. Really appreciated the pics that you posted. At the moment, I'm playing with modeling paste and gesso to get a really smooth hull...probably all wrong, but I'm having fun! Will see what it looks like when I'm done and then maybe go on to second planking for practice. Will post some pics when I feel confident.

Cheers
Fido

Hi there

I am very new to all this stuff and loving every stage of the build. Have been reading and looking at pics for second planking and I'm now about to start stickin' em on. Have measured and drawn where the walnut 5mm veneers are going and am now having a dilemma about how long the planks should be. I'm using pics of the replica Endeavour as a guide, so will eventually paint her belly white. Any suggestions please?

Cheers Fido
