Default Some photos

I've been flapping my gums for some time on this forum, thought I'd post some pictures of what kind of work I do with the models.

They're listed under albums, AL Independence.

Any comments are appreciated, good or bad! I can't learn unless I know what mistakes I make!

Thanks,

V.W. Miller

Mr. Miller,
Of what I have seen so far, I am speechless. This is a beautiflul ship. I am going to look at these more when I can today.

It's beautiful and the detail is awsome, except for one little thing that bothers me and I have to bring it up ( I hope you don't mind ). If this ship were, let's say 120 feet long, the hull planks would also have to be 120 feet. That's a long piece of timber even in those days when trees were more plentiful.
If the entire length of the ship in real life was 30 or 40 feet then forget what I said and this is a beautiful model and either way.

Pete:

Your right, that was something I noticed afterwards! I should have cut in plank ends every 15 to 20 feet on both the deck and hull.

One of those details that I like to get in and then I forget to do it. As we say here in Chicago about the Cubs "Wait until next year!"

You can still do it. Weller makes a soldering iron that takes xacto blades. You can make the plank ends with a chisel tip filed to the width of the planks. The trunnels just drill and tap in or if you use nails don't use a nail pusher, use a jewelers hammer. For the deck, the same chisel tip and a filed to a sharp point round tip makes nail holes look like they were tarred. Try it on a scrap piece and see if you like it. If not it looks fine just the way it is.
