Well I finally finished my Phantom. There are some errors but it was a great learning experience. I've always said with most of my projects "now that I'm done, tear it down & let me rebuild it the right way". I don't think I could have done it without this forum & Chucks practicum. I have started on the Sultana & am just about finished with the hull work. My experience with the Phantom has been a great help thus far in creating a nicer looking ship.

Dennis,
The model looks fantastic. I am glad the practicum was some help. O think will find the Sultana even more rewarding to build. Please let me know if there is anything I do for you. I am glad to hear you are enjoying the hobby so much. Being your first model I am sure you will display it with honor. I still have my foirst model and will never part with it. Chuck |

Your Phantom looks really great, Dennis. BTW Chuck, what was your first model? Any chance of seeing photos?

It was the Bark Endeavor. Maybe I will post some pics but the model was never cased and is loaded with dust. It will require a thorough cleaning first. Dennis, I hope you are going to place the phantom in a case. I know it could be expensive but trust me...Its a shame to see it deteriorate otherwise over the years. The rigging has many dried snapped lines etc. Your work is very fine for a first model and worthy of a case, The Endeavor was not. But it started that love affair with ship models which you have since found as well. Could we call it a mistress?? I digress.

Tried to look at the pictures, but I can't seem to get the photos to load, is anyone else having this problem? It sure looks good in the thumbnails though. Great job Dennis!
Speaking of cases, I am beginning to make my first case and I plan on making it as tight as possible to keep the dust out. The more I think about it I wonder if I should drill a small hole somewhere in the case to help equalize humidity, etc. Has anyone had any experience with this? Or am I just over engineering things? ~Clay |

Yes you should drill some small holes through the bottom of the case in the corners if you have your case on legs. If not I have seen folks simply snip the lower corners of the glass to allow a small amount ir to get in. Depending on who talk to though you will get several different answers. It really depend on where you live. I have heard of some living in very humid areas where the inside of the case actually fogged up so much that you couldnt see the model. That kind of moisture is just no good for a model. In some areas it is so bad the vent holes will not solve the problem. But it will never hurt your model to have a few small vent holes on the bottom of your cases where dust can not enter but air can. Just my opinion.
