Default aeropiccola electric plank bender

Can anyone tell me where, in the U.S. or Canada, I can purchase an Aeropiccola electric plank bender. I have done all the usual 'google' and 'yahoo' searches without success.

Dural,
It's a funny thing you should ask. I have one but lost the spring and have been going bonkers trying to locate a dealer. The bad news is they do not have any U.S, dealers anymore, The good news (I think) I have their address and just today sent them a letter. I'll let you know the results.

Hi Don,
The only source I know of is Euromodels, in GB - http://www.euromodels.co.uk/classic/aeropicc/ep1955.htm

But no matter where you get one, keep in mind that it runs on European voltage, 220 - 240 volts (50 Hertz) and has a plug that will not fit US or Canadian receptacles. You could change the plug to a NEMA Standard (US) or Canadian Standard (CSA) 220v three wire plug, but you'd have to install a 220v outlet in your shop. Since it's a purely resistive device, it can run on 220v, 60 Hertz with no problems.

I don't know if they make it in a 110v model.

Is there a specific reason for wanting the aeropiccola bender, or would you go for a another brand?

John

Great thanks Fred. I did check their (aeropiccola) web site and it says 'under construction'? Do you have a web site for them?

No!!No!!! No!!! I have one and it runs on 110 Volts. Of course it was sold here in the U.S.A.
I think it's the berries. That's why I'm so persistant trying to get mine back 100%. I can use it as is but with difficulty.
Regarding the Web site. No, I could not locate them on the web. That's why I wrote by snail mail. I got their address out of Milton Roth's book "Ship Modeling from Stem to Stern"

Don,
Forwhat it's worth I got mine from Model Expo, but don't handle them anymore. From the information that I have gathered Aeropiccola does not have an outlet in the U.S.A.

Living in South Africa, it's not easy getting hold of wood modelling tools at all, never mind an electric plank bender. I have managed to build one that works very well. I have installed a ceramic (electric water heater) geyser element (1000 watt) inside a 50mm galvanised plumbing pipe held in a vise. For smaller curves, I strapped a 25mm plumbing onto the above. the heat is controlled by switching off the element when not bending. Another method is to push a soldering iron inside the smaller pipe, remembering to remove it when not bending (otherwise it will break). The galvanised pipe is very good at retaining heat so it's not necessary to keep constant heat.

I bought mine in a hobby shop in Madrid Spain, but did not last very long.
So I bought a regular cheap soldering Iron 40W and changed the tip of it with a piece of round 30 mm aluminum adapted to be screwed on a piece of 4 mm allthreaded brass.
