Default Phantom chainplates

Hello,
I need advice on drilling holes in brass chainplates. Do you use pinvise, Dremmel or what?
Thanks, Dennis :xconfused:

Hi Dennis,

If you don't have a lot do to do, a pinvise is fine. Then again if the brass isn't too thick, you can stack a few together and drill through all. A Dremel might be a bit too much, unless you want to make a jig that will hold a stack of plates securely, then drill with the Dremel. You may want to look into the Dremel Work Station

Thanks for the info John. Brass is 1mm thick & pinvise is slow process. Need 18 holes if I follow plans. Might look into Dremmel work place someday.

I drill mine with an 18volt variable speed Ryobi. My Dremel is too fast for me.

Thanks for the info dave. I cheated and used 24ga wire for the chainplates (got idea from Clayton) and they look ok (for me). I got tired (and broke) breaking drill bits on the brass. I'm finishing up the deck parts now. Hope to figure out how to send some photos.

Since we are speaking about Phantom in 1/96th scale I used strips of the supplied copper plating for chainplates, pierced them to simulate spikes and painted them with the same color as the hull. I thought that the brass strips supplied were too thick and would look out of scale.
