This i my first project. I am about to place the bulkheads on the keel. It calls for some beveling of the bulkheads before placement on the keel using a "tick strip". What is a tick strip?

its a small piece of wood you use to transfer dimensions or angles from the plans to the part you are working on.
Good luck David |

Hi David,
I'm new to this hobby too, but in my reading I have discovered that a "tick strip" can be as simple as a piece of paper (I've read that adding machine rolled paper works well...cheap and fairly narrow) that you lay along the plans and on that you "tick" off measurements with a pencil so that you can easily and accurately transfer them to the wood that you are working on. It's nothing too mysterious, just a quick, accurate and easy way to help make the wood look like the drawings. "Ship Modeling from Stem to Stern" by Roth and "How to Build First Rate Ship Models from Kits" by Lankford answered a lot of my questions about the basics. I'd really recommend them. They are well written and don't get you too tangled up in a lot of lingo that you might not have a whole lot of use for at this stage of the game. Hope this helps. Bob |
