Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. Default Interesting book

When I was recently ordering a copy of Fontenoy's 'Sloops of the Hudson River'  from Mystic Seaport, I spotted another book on their list that sounded good so I ordered that too, sight unseen. It's 'The Three Masted Schooner James Miller'  by William S. Quincy, the model-maker up at Mystic. I recommend it as very worthwhile publication as it is both a history and model makers source book for the ship. While I haven't plans to build the Miller at this point, I have a great interest in coastal schooners and have found some really good (and obscure) books on them. I think this goes back to my years growing up in Queens, NY, not far from Newtown Creek where the four master Annie C. Ross was tied up for many years. Ever since, I have been on lookout for material on the Ross and other schooners of her vintage.

Hi Richard,
Very cool! I love the lines and the look of the old schooners. Have you seen the 4-master that Bluejacket is releasing?
Peace
Bob

Hi Bob,
No, I haven't seen it. I looked on the Bluejacket index and it sounds like it might be the Fannie Gorham but I couldn't bring up a picture. If it is, it sounds like it will be very much like the Annie C. Ross which was built in Maine in 1917 and was the last Percy & Small -built schooner in active service before she was tied up in NY in 1941. I've ordered a used copy of "Built on Honor, Sailed With Skill " which was written by Fred Kaiser who sailed on the Ross (as did John Noble) and wrote this book about the coastal schooner. Will drop a line when I get the book.

I was finally able to access the Bluejacket site properly and see the new schooner, the Charles P. Notman. It's a real beauty and it was also a Percy & Small -built vessel. Something to shoot for!

For anyone interested, I just found a new Yahoo site devoted entirely to the new Charles P. Notman kit with drawings and photos of the prototype. It's definitely worth a visit.
