Prairie Schooner
Hey, like the title says, it's a "schooner"!
Just received the Model Expo Conestoga wagon kit and wanted to let folks know that this is an A+++++ kit. It is way more complex and full of excellent materials than the catalogue or the website shows. I can see now why their regular price is over $200. Heck, it even comes with the drill bits you need to build it! I would like to post pictures of it in my gallery as I build it but am not sure if that would be allowed on a ship modeling forum. I don't even know if there is a forum out there for what amounts to farm equipment. Any comment on this from the moderators? Richard

Hi Richard.
For what it's worth I've had a photo of my AL Concorde Wells Fargo Stage Coach posted in my gallery for about 18 months without it raising any eyebrows as far as I'm aware. In fact, I've posted into a couple of threads in this forum with a few tips from my experience with this particular kit. Wooden (or perhaps I should say non-plastic) model boats will always be my first love but every now and then I'll happily turn my hands to something different just far a change. I can't imagine being unusual here. As well as the stage coach I've worked my way through almost every one of AL's cannon kits as well as scratch building a few others. I can't see any of us running into Moderation problems for "running off the rails" occasionally... perhaps if it starts to happen any more often we can create some separate dedicated pages? As a closing thought about "non-marine modeling" there's quite a few boats / ships I would love to build but simply cannot afford the prices of most of them these days. There's a lot of other types of kits out there that are a lot cheaper. You are obviously impressed with your latest kit and enthusiastic about the project... by the sound of the quality, quite rightly so. I for one would be very interested to hear how it goes... with plenty of photos as well, of course.

Against: 0 For some strange reason I am excited about this kit. Very offbeat for me from a model subject stand point. I'll give it another day and then by golly I'm a post'n pics. After all, I do pay property taxes! :) Richard

Go for it, Richard. I would love to see your progress on that kit. I'll bet there are things we can learn that can be used in building water-based (bourn?) ship models.

I'm at work now (not getting to much work done obviously). I'm going to go home, make dinner for the kid, for the dogs, and for myself and then start in on this new kit.
I just love that new kit smell!  Will take pictures tonight and hopefully have them up here in my gallery on Monday. Richard
