I concur about the Sultana. Actually, both are terrific starter kits that build into beautiful models. A copy of "The Neophyte Shipmodeller's Jackstay," can also help in your build, as will Chuck's building guides.

I tried making the Phantom twice. I messed up the bulwarks each time. The directions for the Phantom require thinning the bulwarks to 1/32nd of an inch. That's pretty thin. On the other hand, the Sultana's bulwarks are thinned to 1/16th of an inch. I'm thinking it might have better to start with the Sultana.
On the good side though, Model Expo will replace the hull for free if you screw it up. |

I hate to admit it, but when I built my Phantom "back in the day," I eyeballed the bulwarks. I got them to the point where they looked right instead of measuring to 1/32" precisely. To me, the bulwarks still look appropriate, regardless of how my skills have improved with the years.
