Hello,
I have not built this particular one, however I am building the Sergal Mississippi 1870 and it is an old kit too. I mean the first planking is not even the white limewood, it is old brittle walnut. I am building the 1/50 kit.

Jerry,
Same model or not I believe we may be in the same (life) boat. The scale of my Artesania Latina kit is 1:80. I have looked it over and started some preliminary work by I have questions. I do not know the condition of any of the wood strips but what the "H", I well probably change something anyway and get new or different wood. I do know that I do not like the steps to the upper deck but I will cross that road when I get there. Charlie |

Charlie,
I have just finished the first planking of the hull (I will post pics later today) and when I needed to soak them to bend to form to the bow, they would often split and break at the easiest bend or twist. I wish I had known that or been aware of the old state of the planks. I should have purchased new limewood planks and done it correctly. I just hope that the second layer won't split and tear, even though they are thinner strips. This should let them be formed easier.. After the Hull is complete the rest of the kit should be easier.

Well I started my East Coast ship, AL's King of the Mississippi. Putting the hull together was somewhat cut and dry, not very good fit but it worked out. I started the hull planking however I made a slight change from the directions. Directions called for a single plank strip from stem to stern, maybe it me but I do not believe one could find a plank 173' long in 1850's. I planked to scale of approximately 24' planks. I will probably do the same for the deck. I placed a few photo in my gallery.
