Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

Default 18th Century Longboat by Model Shipways experiences?

Hi All! I just ordered the 18th Century Longboat by Model Shipways from Model Expo. Simply could not pass up the current $50 sale price alone! Are there any of you currently working on this kit? Advice? I would assume the kit does NOT come with boxwood as did the prototype? Any advices on sources of boxwood for this kit as to be honest with you I have been out of shipmodeling for a few years. Thanks for your input! jim hahn in Maine

Welcome back to ship modeling and welcome to the forum, James!

I think everyone here will probably agree that Jeff Hayes at the Hobby Mill offers great service. His wood is well cut and well packaged and he's pretty fast normally. He was backlogged a few months ago, but I think he might be caught up now. His web site is:

http://www.hobbymillusa.com

The boxwood he sells is actually South American boxwood, which technically isn't a true boxwood species, but is very nice stuff, which I use more and more.

My second recommendation is Dave over at The Lumberyard here:

http://www.dlumberyard.com

Service is a bit slower and communication isn't as good as HobbyMill, but they do offer true boxwood. They also offer cannon barrels, Hahn framing kits, etc.

Good luck with the Longboat. It makes a nice looking model.

Clare
