Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

Tricing lines and trip lines for rudders

I'd like to have my Pitcairn Island longboat model to be displayed in rowing mode, not sailing mode. When rigged for rowing, steering would be accomplished by a steering oar, and the rudder would be...

Ferriby boat

Fellow modelers,

I'm considering a scratch-built, 1/24 scale model of the Ferriby boat from the English Bronze age. My interest was prompted by the Ships-in-Scale article about this boat from...

Re: insights from old boats

My paternal grandparents were from Inverin and Spiddal, which is one of the reasons why I use that name. Cold, wet, rocky country, but with a beautiful view of Galway Bay and the Aran Islands.

insights from old boats

List members,

I recently received from a fellow ship modeling list member a series of (somewhat sad) digital images of a deteriorating lifeboat. I realized, while looking at the photos, that many...

Re: interior of wooden pulling lifeboat

Richard,

I have joined that group, and have posted my request for images there as well. Thanks for the tip. I used some of their links a few years ago to get information about Royal Navy uniforms...

interior of wooden pulling lifeboat

List members,

I am beginning construction of a 1/24 scale 36' pulling lifeboat, and have a question for the group. Would any of you have information about, or pictures of, the interiors of British...

Re: completed Irish curragh model

I used a thin, split pigskin, designed for the lining of a leather jacket or coat. The thickness scaled nicely, and the dark brown, finely grained surface gave the right impression of a heavily...

Re: completed Irish curragh model

Winston,

When I inherited my father's shipmodeling tools after his death in 2002, I decided to take up the hobby myself, with my focus or niche being small, open boats of historical significance,...

completed Irish curragh model

Shipmodeling friends,

I have just uploaded new images of my recently completed 1/24 scale, scratch-built model of a 5th-century ocean-going Irish curragh, with Brendan The Navigator at the helm. ...

Re: duckworks

Thank you very much. "Duckboards" may even have been the term I originally read, but then simply remembered incorrectly as "duckworks". Your response is much appreciated.
