Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

Re: Model Shipways Flying Fish

I am one of the community builders.

It is true that FF can turn into a fantastic model. The plans are fabulous, a scratch builder's dream: all details are there. For the kit builder, on thge...

Re: Choice of Victory kit

You seem to have quite a bit of modelling experience, so why not have a go at the Victory. But beware of the rigging.

That being said, the best, probably by far, is the 1/72 kit by...

Re: Deadeyes and Shrouds

This is interesting but I'm not sure I understand it quite right. So the shrouds are cable laid, and this means that when you look at the rope, the strands run from top left to bottom right, OK? And...

Re: any suggestions?

Maybe this is a silly answer, but have you considered using better quality sanding paper? I know some of the cheaper sorts tend to loose their gritalmost as fast as the wood gets sanded.
Now for...

Re: USS Monitor and CSS Virginia

There are still the old plastic models by Lindberg if I remember well. These are basic but easy enough to build. Then lately, a resin model of one of the ship has appeared. Have a look at the...

Re: Spinning Blocks ?

Spinning is due to the quality of the used threads, which does not mean the quality is bad. The main reason in my opinion is that the yarn has not been pre stratched, so stretching the thread can...

Re: HMS King George V

Scale 1/128? Are you aware that there is a British manufacturer who offers hulls (and I think some fittings too) of all major WW2 ships? I think their name is Fleetscale.

Re: Ahoy Maties: Me ship needs a crew

Another idea would be to find some Revell figures from either their Constitution/United States or Alabama/Kearsarge, as these ships are 1/96 if I remember well, and very modellers use the figures...

Re: best HMS BOUNTY kit ?

Jotika kits seem to follow the Anatomy of the Ship series quite closely, and their kit of the Bounty cannot be a bad choice. And Jotika tends to more or less adjust their price to the competition...

Re: Which Is A Better Kit ?

The reputation of Jotika's kits is by now well established. The price of their Surprise is not known yet, but I assume it will be in the range of their excellent Diana. The kit is at 1/64 scale,...

Re: Pride of Baltimore II

Had the same problem when I built the Flying Fish hull. Good news: it later disappearead completely. Bad news: still don't know what rectified it. In my case too the twist occurs at the stern where...

Re: Rigging question

As you cannot run your rigging thread over a beeswaw block once rigged, it is obvious that the glue should come next, as yes, superglue does the job quite well. But be careful, superglue will...
