Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

Airfix 180 VictoryBad,Bad,Bad!

Have not run into a plastic kit so poorly designed as this one...and an Airfix, no less! Right from the beginning, connecting the hull sides and decks required trimming and shaving just to get the...

Re: On the Subject of Rigging

I've just started to rig my Chebec, a 1/50 scale plastic from Heller. At that scale nothing is left out, but I've got to find a way to fool the uneducated viewer. Rigging is just plain dull work for...

Welcome aboard. Have a good friend in Perth, Peter Kitchingman. He's a camera junkie, but follows my ship-building hobby closely. I'm presently building a large, plastic Xebec from a long...

Re: Copper Plate Bos

Frankly, I wouldn't worry about detail like rivet heads on the copper plates. Wouldn't even be noticed. I used that same tape on a model years ago and it looked great! Remember, most viewers don't...

Re: Newbie ques about CA glue stains

Rob...I would set aside the thin CA and stick with the "gap-filling" thicker CA. I only use CA on rigging. Good wood glue on the wooden hulls. If I didn't have CA and the accelerator I'd never get...

Welcome new shipmate

We're not too far away. I'm in Torrington, CT. Working on an Airfix Vasa and Revell's Constitution. Am retired but keep plenty busy with this hobby!

Re: Jackstays???

Jim...Thanks for the reply. Yes, footropes is right. Exactly what I was questioning. I think the fine, copper wire approach would probably be the way to go. On the Revell Constitution, fine, black...

Jackstays???

I'm a bit perplexed as to what material to use to make the modeling of Jackstays a bit easier. On smaller scale square rigs one can ignore jackstays altogether. But on large ones like 1:98...

Re: ahoy there

Welcome Stan...Don't worry about being a plastic builder. You're not alone on this site. I'm finishing the rigging on Airfix's Bounty, and will start their Wasa next. If one's careful, a plastic...

Re: Background reading for our Hobby

Don...
Thanks for the reply. No, I haven't read Six Frigates. I'll check him out and order it. The book I'm reading now is one of Stockwin's Capt. Kidd series, where he has his first command of a...
