Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

Re: Bluejacket Jefferson Davis, My first attempt at a wooden ship model

Yes, I did. Very nice. I am always jealous of the models that have the naturally dark wood. The Jefferson Davis is all basswood and I was concerned that it would not take a dark color well. If I was...

Re: Plan for my first wood boat

Hello Jim, welcome to the forum. I am building my first wooden ship, and it is 2 1/2 years in progress. So maybe a canoe, would have been a better (or quicker project for me). But I don;t believe...

Re: Offbeat Modeling materials that really work

When my son was a Boy Scout, I used to go on most of the camp outs with him. I began carving neckerchief slides. The very first one was a hand giving the Boy Scout sign. (2 fingers straight up). I...

Re: Bluejacket Jefferson Davis, My first attempt at a wooden ship model

I have moved forward a few steps. I have completed the pin rails and the channels. I have also cut the extra wood away from the keel. I ordered an Amati Keel Klamper that is supposed to arrive on...

Re: Bluejacket Jefferson Davis, My first attempt at a wooden ship model

Well, I am beginning to get close to completing another phase. I completed the seats/lockers on the quarter deck. The plans show them as one smooth piece. But it seems to me that if these are also...

Re: Bluejacket Jefferson Davis, My first attempt at a wooden ship model

One more step completed. The pics show the forward heads/lockers. I used the same technique for the slats that I used on the Officers heads. On one of the pictures, there appear to be some clear...

Re: Bluejacket Jefferson Davis, My first attempt at a wooden ship model

Slowly but surely, I am moving forward. I finished the Officers Heads/Lockers and the steering box. The pictures show a better view of how the slats in the door came out. If I didn;t tell you, you...

Re: Jig question ?

When I made the bowsprit for my Jefferson Davis, I used an L shaped piece of aluminum stock in a similar way. It worked for me to cut the octagonal portions. But why are you asking the original...

Re: Bluejacket Jefferson Davis, My first attempt at a wooden ship model

Yes I have been gone a while, but I am still building, little by little. I couldn't get chemical blackener from and of the local hobby shops, so I ordered it from BlueJacket. It works amazingly well....
