HMS Endeavour main and fore mast problem

This is my first model (Artisana Latina)and I am stuck on the positioning of the double blocks on the main piece of the foremast and main mast
There is a discrepancy between the front and side view of the scale drawing.
The side view shows the double blocks (part 222) on the edge of the crosstrees. But on the front view it is positioned in
a completely different place : it shows 8.5mm from mast, that area is an empty space!!!
Please help

Re: HMS Endeavour main and fore mast problem

Hi Renato. The Endevour is a ship that very little is known about. Even the full size replica built in Australia is not entirely correct going by the remaining drawings (very sparse) at Greenwich. The book"Anatomy of the ship" series gives as good a description of the original as, I believe, can be found. I am completing the Corel Endevour and if you think you have problems you should try this one! The plans and kit itself leave a lot to be desired and I found it best to "do my own thing", going by the Anatomy book. This may not be of much help to you but, as someone said to me when I joined, it is your ship and you can arrange it according to your best information. The web is useful in this respect too. Good luck and I hope you find the answer. Jonathan.

Thanks Jonathan for the reply. As this is my first ship, could you possibly to recommend a book on how to do the rigging, particularly for the Endeavour and for beginners? My wife bought me this kit as a present but she had no idea that it was so difficult. I am stuck at this point and realise I will need a very good and simple book to be able to do the rigging.

Re: HMS Endeavour main and fore mast problem

Hi Renato. The book I have found most helpful is "Ship Modeling From Stem to Stern" by Milton Roth. Available at Amazon. Although he tends to generalise it does give information about every aspect of modelling and is moderate in price. There are books entirely on rigging but I have not found them to be much help. Other books I would suggest are by Keith Julier; he also covers rigging and other aspects of building. At the risk of going mad there is only one way and that is to learn by our mistakes. It is surprising though how one develops ones own way of doing it.Regards. Jonathan.

Thank you, I will keep this book in mind. I have already ordered a book through Amazon called "rigging Period Ship Models" by Lennard Peterson (since rigging will be my nightmare LOL) I hope it will do the trick otherwize I will get it in the future.
