i need help already!!
i ogt my ranger kit from corel, and there is a problem, the keel is warped. it is only a little curve and i tried setting a book on it for a few days but had no luck
any suggestions?? |

Yours is a pretty common problem, but fortunately not much to worry about. My suggestion, clamp the keel in a straight frame, either one of the commercial keel clamps or one of your own devising (my favorite) and proceed with the project. Install the bulkheads square to the keel (square where they attach to the keel if a little warp persists). Once the bulkheads are in place, they can be trued up, bringing them to parallel, with blocks or battens. This should straighten the keel and allow you to get on with the model building. Once the bulkheads are in place and the planking and decking starts, the hull will be strong enough to overcome any tendency of the keel to warp. Regards Jim |

Yes, good call on Jim's part!
Also, the kit probably has a subdeck that should help keep it all straight once the bulkheads are all attached and square to the keel. But, make sure you test fit that subdeck when you get there, as sometimes the tolerances on the notches for the timberheads are tight and it might want to warp the keel too. Clare |
