Dumas Kits, Creole Queen in Particular

I picked up the Queen from eBay for $85, a good price if you ask me. It was short decals, but I bought those direct from Dumas.

Having put together many kits in the past, both wood and plastic, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the supplied wood and fittings. As I have just finished putting together the baseboard (with a lazy Susan) I can't comment on fit, but hand fitting makes me think that it will go together pretty easily.

The directions could be a little clearer. It took several rereads to make sure I had all the necessary tools and supplies before I started in earnest. It helps to have space available to have the diagrams open in front of you.

I've also been saving containers from Chinese takeout for parts storage. Free and available in many sizes.

Anyone want pictures as I progress?

I built this kit several years ago. I found it sails fine, if it is a very quite day. Just a little wind and the sides act like sails and take it. The forward rudder helps, but just not enough power. In mine the paddle wheel is too low. But then I put a lot of extra planking on it. I planked the 2 landings and the deck behind the deckhouse in a herringbone pattern. The waterline is about 1/4" below the deck.
