Inserting Photos from your Photo Gallery
Wish you could insert Images from your Photo Gallery directly into a forum post, or even a Private Message? Well now you can. :banna:
Look for the little box titled, "My Pictures", just below the "Smilies" box in any of the post editing windows. Click "Open", and a Pop up window will display all of your photos in your gallery. Instructions are at the top of the window. This works best in Internet Explorer. (Netscape, Opera, or Firefox will only allow two options, #3 or #4, and the thumbnails may not show properly. In other words, I wouldn't use this feature unless you use Internet Explorer) One advantage of using this method is that you can place the thumbnail image anywhere in your post, as opposed to attachments that are placed at the bottom of the post. See these posts as examples: Re: Another newbie, by ozarkhillbilly (Bill) Building a simple binnacle, by [RC] C++ (Nico) First outer planking layer complete by tomse3 (Tom). You can insert images in four different ways: 1 - Insert a Thumbnail that links to your Gallery. 2 - Insert a Thumbnail that opens the original image in a new window (default). 3 - Insert just the Thumbnail. 4 - Insert the original Image. Please keep this option to a minimum (one or two photos). Remember, some of our members connect to the Internet by phone modem, and a lot of full size Images would take quite a long time to load. If you want to display more than two or more large images, choose option #2. See my examples below: 1 - My Shop: 2 - Master and Commander: 3 - Bluenose: 4 - The 'Young America': ![]() For those members (like me), that have a lot of images and or Albums, we're working on a script that will allow the selection of an Album and or a Gallery Page. It would cut down on the amount of 'Browsing' you would have to do. Enjoy, John |
Re: Inserting Photos from your Photo Gallery
On the subject of pictures to insert, I would like to make a suggestion. I looked at the last sent pictures by Dannyboyparker. Good pictures of what looks like an interesting subject. But what is it? To which article / mail is it related? I think is is a good idea as it was suggested to me, to include some kind od comments to the pics. Or did I miss something?

I asume you're reffering to Dan's Gallery in the Photo Gallery. Yes, it would be nice for members to add descriptions to their photos, either by clicking the 'Edit Photo' link under each photo, or when they are uploading the photos to begin with. But that's up to each individual member. Some members may not have the time, or they may have slow Internet connections. I'm sure Dan will catch up with his photos sooner or later. As for photos inserted into forum posts, most members do add comments and / or descriptions to the posted images. But, again, that is their option. John |
Question re Posting of Photos to Gallery.
Why is the size of photos for our albums limited to 300? All of mine exceed this. Is there a viable method of reducing the size of my photos?

Re: Question re Posting of Photos to Gallery.
Hi Al.
The file size, in kilobytes, is limited to no bigger than 300kb's per image (for the larger size images - 800 by 600) to allow for faster page loading. Not all users have hi speed internet connections and the nominal file size for viewing images on the web is best when the images are ''compressed''. An excellent image editor (for free download) if you don't have one is Picasa from Goggle. Cheers, John |
Re: Question re Posting of Photos to Gallery.
Thanks John, I'll give it a try.

Re: Inserting Photos from your Photo Gallery
Hi everybody, I was reading the post about resizing and I just thought I'd mention to Windows XP users, If you want to resize photos > Right click and choose "Resize Pictures" from the menu. It will give you a choice of " Small 640x480, Medium 800x600 and Large 1024x768. Medium works well for the forum and holding the "control key" while choosing which photos you want will resize all of them at once. Also they'll be renamed with small, medium or large inserted into the original name leaving the originals intact.
Hope this helps. Pete |
