USS Raleigh
Several years ago while stationed in Norfolk, my wife and I took our 4 children on vacation up the east coast. We visited the normal historical sites in DC, Baltimore and Philedelphia. While visiting Philly, we visited the Marine Museum at the Independence National Park. In the museum was a cut away model of the frigate Raleigh, showing the areas on the ship that her marines were responsible. As it happens, I was assigned to the USS Raleigh (LPD-1). My older daughter was just learning how to read, and she knew that daddy served on the Raleigh, she also knew that the Raleigh that I served on carried marines. So in the mind of a second grader obviosly this was the ship on which daddy was stationed. So she turned to the curator, pointed at the model, and said at the top of her voice "hey, thats ship my Daddy works on." It just so happened that I was wearing a baseball cap with my ship's name on it along with a picture of an alligator. Everyone in the museum had a good laugh at my expense.
