ALs recent Cutty Sark
I thought it would be a good idea to start this thread to share the building of my Cutty Sark by AL.
I have to say this is one good kit. The wood is first rate and so far the laser cut parts fit exceptionally well. I have heard different stories about AL's quality but so far this kit has not gone down that path. Maybe because they are producing it in China they have made new tooling or processes. If I am successful with the pictures you will be able to see my progress to date or at least some of it. In the pictures I have finished the deck planking and done a basic initial sanding. I am progressing through the planking and have completed one side and done an initial sanding. Unfortunately I accidently erased the pics so I will take them again when I have finished sanding. I am taking a week off so I hope to move the build forward quite a bit during that time as I have nothing to interfere with my plans. Anyway I tried to post pictures but it doesn't seem to work right now so I'll try again later. Clear Sailing Mike |

Looks like a good start indeed. I don't know this kit. Would you mind posting it's scale and principle dimensions. ...and definately keep the pictures coming. It looks like a fine project. Regards Jim |
Re: ALs recent Cutty Sark
Jim;
To answer you questions the kit is 1/84 scale L= 40 1/2 H 24 1/2 . I live in an apartment so the 40" part is definitely taxing my work space. The table is a little less than 42" so once I put the Bow Sprint in place I'll have to watch my clearances. LOL. When I get some time later I'll post some pictures of the kit's components. Mike |
