Re: MS Constitution 2008 Journal
Thanks for the great information Bruce. I think I would be very disappointed going to Mystic and not being able to see the models or Charles Morgan. I had to think for a while whether I wanted to make the Constitution or the Morgan. Obviously I opted for Constitution. But I do find our whaling heritage very interesting and someday will build a whaling ship. I also remember one of the exhibits was the building of the Amistad. Visitors were allowed to help with some minor construction. Do you know if they ever finished it?
This week I'm still working on bulwarks planking and creating spar deck gunports. So far so good.
Its been very interesting reading everybody's thoughts on scratch building. I tend to lean towards James thoughts where I am to lazy (or busy) to create every piece from scratch, but am not opposed to bashing the kit for creative changes or historical accuracy. At this point in my modelling career, I just really enjoy working with my hands on a project with tons of details. The historical accuracy isn't as important to me as craftsmanship.
