Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

Default Late starter

Being comfortably into the Senior Citizen years, I feel like a late starter to ship modeling. However, I have at least two kits of the barque EAGLE which I would like to get off the shelf and completed, so I need to start soon.

Bob:
Looked at your profile: USCG (a "real sailorman"). Where "along the Columbia" did you grow up? I live in the "greater Portland Metro area".

I hope you're not like me; constantly wondering if I have enough time left to finish all those models in the closet!

You'll find a lot of information and new friends here. Welcome aboard.

James -- I grew up in Astoria. Left there in 1956 for the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. Sailed four times on the USCGC EAGLE and spent eight seasons on the sailing team (fall and spring). I spent two years, 1960-62, aboard the CGC WINONA, a 255' WPG out of Port Angeles, WA (Gunnery Officer, Ops Officer and Navigator). Since retiring I've spent much of my time on the water, sailing with friends or fishing from my boat. I ran across a great hobby store in Beaverton several years ago. Will have to track it down again one day.

Hi Bob,

Welcome to the world of model ship building. You'll find a world of information on this site as well as very helpful folks.

I'm another Oregon lad (Sandy...east of PDX) and have been to both Astoria and Port Angeles, though I have yet to get to Alaska.

Glad to have you with us. As for "needing to get started", there's no time like the present!

Happy building.

Astoria: Yes! A visit to the museum there got me back into ship modeling (I can do that).
I wanted to move there and commute to work in Portland ( the Captain said "belay that")
What's the hobby shop's name? I live in Beaverton / Aloha (Tammie's Hobbies is my "candy store").
