Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

Hi Don, why don't you slide a black ring onto the line and CA glue it in place where the line run over the cascabel? The line will be holding the ring in place instead of the other way around but who'll know??

Don:
At your scale (small), fly tying thread would work well for the seizing. It comes prewaxed and really "bites" into the line, and holds it well. An alternative to rings, or loops for your breeching line might be to open the twist of the breeching line and place the opening over the cascabel, if it's two strands; If three strands, two over and one under might work.

Don:
Yes I do. A very large selection (I used to tie flies). I find the Vise is good at holding some small items, and the threads work well for seizing or holding larger lines together till seized with thicker thread.
I posted a few quick photo's of the bobbin and thread. The seizing was done with black fly tying thread. The lines weren't waxed (so they look fuzzy), and the bottom third of the seizing is too loose, but you get the idea.

Thanks guys for all your tips. I have been working on my technique to seize a cannon line and at a small scale it is rather humbling. I tried different things and finally decided upon a simple overhand knot and then I wrapped the line around about three times and glued it into place. I also tried the various suggestions for the cascable and it just wasn't working for me, so I think I will leave it as is.

Don:
I understand "humbling". I find I know how it was done on the real ship, and I know how I want to do it, but the "tiny, little strings" just aren't cooperating! Some times it's best to go with "what works, and looks "good enough for me". It will "pass muster".
Just don't do like me, and point out all of the mistakes you've made when somebody compliments you on the finished model ( I'm my own "worst critic").
