Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

Welcome Rinie,

I'd love to see photos of the construction of your Andrea Gail. Have fun building her!

I was captivated when I first read The Perfect Storm and am a big fan of the books by Linda Greenlaw who was Captain of another swordfishing boat in communication with the Andrea Gail the day of her sinking.

Anne

Rinie: Welcome aboard. Plastic or wood, it's all "real". There are some outstanding plastic finished models. It's all in how much detail you add to it.

Hi shipbuilders!

Since I registered myself just before my summer holidays, I have had no time to properly introduce myself yet.
My name is Rinie, I'm from the Netherlands. I'm 34 years old, married, and expecting our first child in February!

I've been doing some ship modeling as a child and picked up this great hobby about one year ago by starting the build of Billing Boats Andrea Gail. Now one year later the Andrea is almost finished, and I've started my first wooden model: the ARM 82 by Mantua. As an aside (primarily to get some painting experience) I'm also working on a tiny plastic kit: Revell's Smit Nederland.

For all three projects I've been keeping a build log on a Dutch model builders forum.
Having visited this great forum a few times, I would love to join you and share my builds and learn from your experiences. Therefore I plan to post a build log of the ARM 82 on this forum.

Here are some pictures to get a better idea of my current projects:

The mini Smit Nederland (14 cm model):

The (nearly finished) Andrea Gail:

And the recently started Hoogaars ARM 82:

I hope to frequently visit this great forum, share my experiences and learn from yours!

Regards, Rinie
