Sadly, your ships look better than my "first" POB project Mayflower. But I spent all day today making the capstan and I've got to say...its a thing of beauty.

Now all I have to do is to get people to look past all my smeared glue and splintered wood to see my pride and joy under the quarter deck. Would it be OK to mount it on the poop deck to make it easier to see?

Chuck, I still want to know what tips you have for painting the "S"s on the beakhead. You did a beautiful job and if you just "freehanded" them, I'm going to throw away my brushes in protest. Nobody should be that good.

Maybe I'll glue my capstan on the front of the beakhead...

Jim

Thats funny. I did freehand the "S"'s. But I id so before gluing the sides of the beakhead into position. I drew the s shapes in pencil first on the black background and then took a couple of hours with the smallest of bruches. When I screwed up and went out of the lines then I took some black and touched up thoe parts that went astray. It takes some getting used to. But rememebr I have an advantage. I have 6 years of fine arts training. Thats what I went to college for. About all I use that education for now is being able to paint little fiddly details on my models. I should have gone to Med school instead. At least thats what the Mrs. tells me.

I've been working on this thing all day long. For this picture I broke out the good camera so the picture is a little clearer. It is amazing the level of detail Chuck put into this model. I am just getting started on the rigging, there's a lot left to go.

Alright, one more picture before I go to sleep. By the way, this chop was way more effort than it was worth.
