Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

A quick check of the results of the poll indicates that US manufacturers are still favored over those "on the other side of the lake". Many years ago (30+), savvy model ship authorities pointed out the disadvantages (poor translation of instructions; off-scale components; nonsense rigging; missing parts; inaccurate 'add-ons' and High Price - to name a few) of buying from foreign sources. The only positive comment that I recall was an insinuation that UK products were probably good, especially as they related to Plans.
Overseas manufacturers have undoubtedly learned (slowly) of their shortcomings and probably have improved the overall quality of their offerings, but I for one say "Buy American!"

I've built 2 ships so far and both were by Artesania Latina so I can't really give an opinion on which is best but I am surprised at the number of votes for Art. Lat. I don't think their kits are very accurate, their instructions are poor, although the color picture booklet is a nice touch, and their support is non-existent.
But, like I said, I'm new at this.

I generally like Model Shipways kits but check out the 'rigging plans' for the Prince de Neufchatel.
