Forum Running Slow

Posted by: wirewolf - on -  02-07-2007

Hi All,

I noticed this morning that pages on the Forum where loading very slowly or not at all, then all of a sudden they would load fine. Got home tonight and the same thing! Slow, fast, slow, fast. Drove me nuts.

I thought it might be a scripting problem or that pages making database queries could be the problem. But even static html pages like the Quick Navigation page where loading slow or not at all.

I just got off the phone with our Host's help desk at Bluehost. Found out that they moved our domain, shipmodeling.net, to a new server. I suspect this is the problem. The tech wrote up a trouble ticket and assigned it to one of their software engineers and I'm waiting for him to get back to me.

So standby and I'll keep you posted (I hope!)

John

Just got this email from Bluehost Support:

Hello,

This has been resolved. We needed to restart our web service.

Seems they moved us, but forgot to hit the restart switch! All seems well now.

Just what a site owner needs, more headaches!

Another little problem cropped up this morning. I coulnd't send out the Bulletin. Seems in moving us over to another server, something went wrong with the bulk mail server. It started to send the first 150 Bulletins (took over one hour!), then crapped out!

Called tech support, but it's now the week end and the tech I got said he would have to turn it over to one of the software guys at Blushost. So, stay tuned.

A blurry eyed Cap!

Just another day in the neighborhood! I think they say ..... "it will teach you tolerance"

It seems that Bluehost, in moving the Forum over to another server a few things went screwy. The domain sendmail function (server send mail) is slow as molasses going up hill in January. I still can't send out the weekly Bulletin.
I've also noticed that posting a thread or a reply is taking a little longer than usual.

All they tell me at Bluehost is that the problems have been asigned to the server engineers. Apparently the shipmodeling domain is not the only domain having these same problems. Cold comfort!

Noticed this also. But it's not too bad. Miss the Bulletin, but I'm sure the host will get it all corrected. If not -

Looks like they might have finally fixed the slow loading issues. The main forum page is coming up almost instantly for me now. Earlier this morning it really slow.

I take it all back what I said about the main forum page loading. It still takes forever. Once I get the page loaded I don't have any problem navigating the site.

Did the URL change in anyway? This is what I have been using http://www.shipmodeling.net/cmps_index.html

The Host tells me that they are still having some problems. One being initial page loading after log in.

Maybe a few shots off their starboard bow would fix it!

Look like things are back to normal!

Is just me or is there something wrong with the photo section of the forum?

I receive this error when I try and click on a photo in the photo gallery or from the main forum page:

We're sorry, but the system experienced an unrecoverable error. Please try again later.

I get the same message Nav no matter which or whose photos I try to click on!

All OK now. Had to fix a minor hiccup in the database.
Cheers, John
