A Jig to Profile Strakes

Here is a part of my "practicum" of Le Renard, which could complete the excellent articles of Nico.




This jig (1) is going to enable to file batches of 4 to 8 veneer strips. It is built with an aluminum profile which one of the sides is sawed 5mm wide (the width of strips).
Inside the jig the spaces between frames are marked (2).
A small stopping block (3) is glued at the end of the profile, just before the mark of the careen.

File the edge of the profile according to the widths calculated above, that is to say:
3.62mm for the careen (width to be fitted at the laying),
3.43mm for the first bulkhead,
4.06mm for the second bulkhead
and so on.



Details for the jig:
1. Batch of 5 mm strips to be profiled.
2. Corner iron with a side cut according to the calculated profile of the "main strake".
3. Stopping wedge glued on the corner.
4. Tightening strip, of same profile as the jig.
5. Tightening pliers.



The sanding of the strips is made with a sanding block and sand paper nš150.
