Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

A Simple Motorized Ropewalk

I discovered a simple secret about making rope. In order for the threads or strands to lay up properly and stay together, the individual threads or strands had to be over twisted, almost to the point of kinking on themselves. The other part is that each step is twisted the opposite of what is already done. In other words, if you start with three right hand twist threads, to lay them up as rope you need to twist them as left handed. This causes the threads or strands to try to uncoil against each other, which actually strengthens the rope.
