My first kit (completed 3/09) was the Model Shipways Mayflower. It took me about 6 months to complete. I am now working on a more expensive Corel kit.

The first thing I did was download the practicum by Chuck Passaro. After looking through this practicum, I had a much better idea of what I was getting into. I contacted Chuck and he was willing to answer my questions by email. I found this to be very important and helpful. The materials were good and all the parts were there. I found the experience building this kit to be what I needed to step up to a more difficult kit. I have had many compliments on the finished product (check my gallery)

By the way...the more expensive kit (that I'm corrently working on) has almost everything made for you where the Mayflower requires you to make from scratch many of the smaller parts. I actually enjoyed making these smaller parts and doing so helped build my skill level and boost my confidence.

If you decide to choose the Model Shipways kit I'd be happy to help answer any questions.

I am working on the Mayflower, Art.Latina model. If you selected the same model, I need some help on building the wooden grids.

Hi;

Based on the example made by Chuck, which he featured on this site I would go with Model Shipway's kit. They are a well established and well spoken of company who stand behind their products. Chuck posted a lot of good notes and pictures on this site as well which could be of great help to you.

Cheers
